Plaza Theater 2004

When Marilyn wished me happy anniversary first thing this morning, I'm thinking something is up. We were married in December. I thought a second and figured it out pretty quickly. We bought the Plaza Theater from Velma Sickles on April 1, 2004. Since then it has been a wonderful privilege to restore the building and to start the gift shop. Marilyn and I believe that this opportunity is truly a gift from God.
We love old buildings and heard that the Plaza Theater was a great building. We were eager to see it. In March of 2004, Velma Sickles gave us a tour. The entire building was gorgeous but two rooms were particularly captivating. We were in need of living space and the office upstairs would make a great apartment. We were amazed by theater auditorium's architecture.
We asked Velma if she would consider renting the apartment. Our hearts sank when she said no she wasn't. Then after the slightest of hesitation she said she was interesting in selling it though. We were both thinking that a building this great would be out of our price range but we asked if she had considered a price. Without hesitation she quoted her price. Marilyn and I said we were interested but needed to talk it over. We got home and talked it over. We agreed to pay her what she asked and we closed the deal in about one month.
It has been six years since we bought the Plaza. Looking back these six years we are awed by how God provided us a living space just as we needed it at a price we could afford. The deal closed in less than a month which is the fastest property transaction we have ever experienced. Most important, God gave us a vision for the restoration of the Plaza.
Leave us a post. We would love to hear from you.

Caidon Leamy Celebrates 7th Birthday with Etceteras Shopping Spree

Marilyn and Caidon celebrate a birthday together on March 25th. As you can see from the cake in the photo above, one of them turned seven. One of the traditions with the grandsons that has developed since Etceteras Gift Shop opened in May of 2007 is the annual Birthday Shopping Spree. Rather than pick a gift from the shop out for them, we given them retail dollar limit and let them make the choices. It has lead to a couple of important benefits. First, it teaches them to be good shoppers and forces them to use “real world” math. It also provides Marilyn with a great barometer for how current our products are. After all, who wants to shop for what you got last year. The boys are in the habit of asking long before their birthday if they are going to get a Birthday Shopping Spree.
So, what does a seven year old get on a Birthday Shopping Spree? The first thing Caidon picked out is a new game for us this season called Ninety-nine or Bust!. This is card game that is great family entertainment and educational besides. The folks at Legendary Games, Inc say that if you can, add you can play this game. The family was playing right after birthday cake.
Lengendary Game, Inc is better known for their Pocket Farkel product.
Caidon picked out a of mix items in a variety of price ranges. He picked up a top, a pair of musical recorder, and a Flying Disk Gun each at under two dollars. Caidon still likes his Webkinz products. He chose a Lil'kinz Chihuahua and his choice for a Webkinz was the Purple Emperor Dragon.
